The year is 1925. Perhaps New York City’s most prevalent and dangerous serial killer is still on the large. The mystery is unlike any other, but the answer may be closer than expected.(Click character ref sheets to enlargen them.)Last Updated: 10/15/25
• Profile revamps. Again. Character selection is a big fat WIP.
A concept for vintage murder mystery and psychological horror. I work on this story for my own personal satisfaction please remember that.A “penny dreadful” refers to a kind of literature most popular in 19th century England. It is synonymous with the terms “penny awfuls,” “penny horribles,” and “penny bloods.” These books were often very cheap, hence the name, and contained stories about crime, mystery, and the like.Got questions!! Cheekily nicknamed “Fisticuffs” by their employeress. Aloof and laconic, yet overconfident, they are not above demands and scalding remarks, and does not harbour respect for anyone they deem below them.. which, of course, is just about everyone. The only person they are willing to engage in conversation with is their employeress, that of which they are fiercely overprotective. They are known for being stoic; their emaciated face that betrays little to no expression. Despite this, there seems to be an ever-present air of paranoia to their character, as if they are constantly being watched. In regards to things they do enjoy (a rarity in itself), Fifi is fond of the finer things, i.e opera, interior design, and painting. They love pigeons and are a proud parent of about twenty.Fifi cannot help but feel as if Vanny has seen something she shouldn’t have. If push comes to shove, perhaps they’ll have something to say about it. Seeing is not always believing, after all, lest your eyes betray you.

The epitome of the flapper! Better known as Dottie or just Dot, Dorothy is a Japanese-American cabaret singer and a native Manhattanite. As of 1925, she takes first billing at Sergio Cardona's jazz bar called the Little Dove, where she is extolled as the Daughter of the Pearl. Dottie lives in an opulent Manhattan city mansion, that of which was gifted to her by Mr. Cardona himself. Along with the mansion, Mr. Cardona "gifted" his butler to her, whom she affectionately nicknamed Fisticuffs.Despite her angelic appearance, Dottie has both the mouth and liquor gut of a sailor. Offstage, she can be loud and quite overbearing, but she is loyal above all else. All she wants to do is party! She loves her friends dearly; their wellbeing comes first, always. While she can be a tease, oblivious, and perhaps a bit slow on the uptake, you can’t stay mad at her forever. Her intentions are pure, she’s all about tough love. She lives in a separate house than her fiancé Ricky, with whom she has a daughter named Jacqueline.

Vanny is nothing short of good intentioned. Reticent, addled, and a little overwrought, they prefer keeping to themself. Social interactions are exhausting and unfamiliar, and Vanny would rather play it safe. Overall, they are a meek but tender soul. Their silence is not petulance.A paranoid overthinker, their introverted nature deems them a complete shut-in, deliberately ignoring invites to outings and holing up in their room to fall asleep. They are quite easily moved to tears, and tend to think with their heart rather than their brain. They’re a proud defeatist and do not see the point in doing much of anything with their life anymore. It’s already gone downhill for them. What’s next? Why hit them while they’re already down?Even with this in mind, Vanny is oftentimes driven by their short-lived bouts of determination. They are deadset on solving the mystery behind their dear aunt’s murder, who they cherished more than anything.
